Perceptyx recommends using a 5-point Likert scale, with results reported as percent favorable:
Responses marked Strongly Agree/Agree (5/4) are considered Favorable.
Responses marked Neither Agree nor Disagree (3) are considered Neutral.
Responses marked Disagree/Strongly Disagree (2/1) are considered Unfavorable.
If an organization includes N/A as an option, these responses are not included in the overall calculation.
This article walks through:
Calculations for Questions
% Favorable = Proportion of valid respondents who selected Strongly Agree & Agree
Question % Favorable (i.e., proportion of Strongly Agree and Agree) = [23 + 16] / 49 = 79.6%
Question Mean = [(0x1) + (3x2) + (7x3) + (23x4) + (16x5)] / 49 = 4.10
Calculations for Categories/Indices
Category/Index scores are calculated using all valid responses to the questions within a particular Category/Index. It is not necessarily the straight average of all question scores, unless every respondent has responded with a valid response to all questions in the category. Category/Index scores are weighted by the number of responses per question.
Category/Index score = sum of the people who responded in a particular way (e.g., Strongly Agree or Agree) divided by the sum of the number of valid responses across all questions.
Category/Index % Favorable (i.e., proportion of Strongly Agree and Agree) = [62 + 92] / 198 = 77.8%
Category/Index Mean = [(2x1) + (11x2) + (31x3) + (92x4) + (62x5)] / 198 = 4.00
