The Hot Spot Report helps you quickly identify pockets of respondents whose scores are significantly higher or lower than those of other respondents. Hot spots help to identify potential areas for improvement as well as areas where things are going well. You can gain additional insights by selecting and combining demographic variables.

Report Details
The top section of the report contains the following options:
Demographic Selection | Specifies the demographic you want to show hot spots for. You can select up to two demographics. Click the Demographic Selection dropdown to display demographic options. Click the plus sign to add a second demographic. |
Difference Based On | Specifies whether the hot spot analysis is based on Percent Favorable, Percent Neutral, or Percent Unfavorable. |
Question/Category | Specifies the question or category the analysis is applied to. |
Only Show Hot Spots | Clicking this checkbox allows you to specify what score difference constitutes a hot spot. Options range from 20 to -20. When you select a number, the results refresh to show only those that meet the hot spot criteria you specified. |
Show Comparison Bars | Clicking this checkbox displays a comparison bar for the full demographic population below the hot spot bar. |
The body of the report contains the following columns:
Demographic Option | Displays the individual options for the demographic you select in the Demographic Selection dropdown. For example, if you select City, this column will list each city included as an option for the City demographic in your data file.
Each option listed is linked to the Favorability Report. Clicking a link filters the Favorability Report to show results for only that option (for example, clicking Boston displays the Favorability Report filtered to show results only for respondents in Boston).
Note: Clicking a link applies a filter that stays in effect for all your reports until you clear it. |
Count | The number of respondents who answered the question. |
% Favorable | % Neutral | % Unfavorable | A visual display of the Favorable, Neutral, and Unfavorable response percentage for the question or category you select in the Question/Category dropdown. |
Diff Fav | Displays the difference in the % Favorable score between an individual demographic option and all the options for the demographic (for example, the difference between Boston and City Overall [all cities]). You can see the difference visually by selecting the Show Comparison Bars checkbox in the report options. |
The following example shows hot spots by city for the Organization Listening – Continuous Improvement category. Differences are based on the % Favorable score. Hot spots are defined as a score of 10 or more percentage points lower (-10) in % Favorable score than the City Overall score, which is shown below the score for each city.
