Giving employees a transparent platform to share their honest feedback can sometimes result in some participants providing responses that are deemed inappropriate. To help minimize such occurrences, the system contains an automatic profanity filter. Upon request, Perceptyx can also apply a proper name filter.
Additionally, Crowdsource events feature a comment flagging feature. Respondents can “flag” what they deem as inappropriate comments and administrators designated as moderators can choose to remove flagged comments or let them remain visible.
This article walks through:
The Automatic Profanity Filter
The profanity filter is based on a frequently updated list of inappropriate words. If a respondent’s comment contains any profane words, they receive an error message highlighting the offensive word(s) and asking them to revise the comment. Please note that the filter cannot account for all creative spellings, however.
The Proper Name Filter
When the proper name filter is set up, a respondent receives an error message if they try to submit an open-ended response that includes the name of someone in the organization. Please note that the proper name filter is not foolproof, due to intentional misspellings, use of special characters, and common English words. To set up the proper name filter for your account, please reach out to your Perceptyx program manager.
Event Moderation
The flagging feature enables participants to report an open-ended comment that they deem inappropriate. When a comment is flagged, an email notification is sent to the moderator(s) for review and deletion as needed. The email includes the flagged comment, the number of times it has been viewed in a voting pair, and number of times it has been flagged.
Upon clicking Review, moderators can choose to either ignore or delete the comment.
Note: Once a comment is removed, it cannot be reinstated.
Moderators can track flagged comments, if any, that are pending review, have been retained, or have been removed.
Navigate to the Moderate Pulse phase for the event you want to work with.
From within the Event Builder:
Click Moderate Pulse in the left panel.
From Listen:
In the Active Events section or the All Events section, click Manage Event for the event you want to work with.
The Event Builder opens.
In the left panel, click Moderate Pulse.
The Moderate Pulse page appears, displaying three tabs:
Pending - Any flagged comments that have not yet been reviewed
Retained - Any flagged comments that were reviewed and retained
Removed - Any flagged comments that were reviewed and removed
Click the tabs to view items, if applicable.
Moderation Recommendations
Below are our recommendations for identifying and addressing inappropriate comments:
If you do decide to remove a comment, consider sending out a note to all employees to close the communication loop. It is important to remind employees that their responses are visible to their peers and leaders, and answers that violate certain criteria will be removed. This can help mitigate the sentiment that employees are “not allowed” to give feedback that is less than positive.
