Perceptyx Global Tech Specs

Perceptyx runs in the browser and talks to your people using programs like email, Microsoft Teams, or Slack. For all of that to work smoothly, a few settings in your email, network, and identity systems need to let Perceptyx through.

This page is the full list. It's written for whoever looks after email security, networking, and sign-in at your organization, so if that isn't you, this is a good page to forward. Most of it is one-time setup.

Setup checklist

Here's everything on one list. Each item links to a section below with the details and the exact addresses.

• Allow email from the @perceptyx.com domain, so invitations and reminders don't get blocked or sent to spam.
• Turn off email throttling for Perceptyx mail.
• Exclude @perceptyx.com from email scanning and prefetching tools, so your engagement numbers stay accurate.
• Set images from Perceptyx to download automatically.
• Allow the Perceptyx email servers, web domains, and file transfer servers for your region.
• Make sure no proxy server caches content from Perceptyx.
• Keep people on a supported browser.
• If you're setting up single sign-on, get your identity team ready to swap metadata files with Perceptyx.

Email

Perceptyx sends survey invitations, reminders, and other notifications by email. Three things decide whether those emails arrive, and whether the numbers you see afterward are real: what your filters let through, how fast your mail server accepts messages, and what your security tools do to a message before a person ever opens it.

Let Perceptyx email through

Add the @perceptyx.com email domain to your allow list. Every employee should be able to get invitation and reminder emails from Perceptyx without them being blocked or marked as spam.

Turn off email throttling

By default, Perceptyx sends email in batches of 500 with a 30-second delay between each batch. Those batches can also go out in parallel to speed up delivery. Throttling on your side slows all of that down, and people get their notifications late, so switch it off for Perceptyx email.

Keep security tools from skewing your numbers

This one is less about delivery and more about your data. Automated email security tools often open links and load content on their own, before anyone reads the message. When that happens to a Perceptyx email, it can count as a view. It's the same problem as a link scanner clicking every survey link and producing a 100 percent response rate: the report looks great and tells you nothing.

To avoid that, exclude the @perceptyx.com domain in these tools, so an email only counts as opened when a person actually opens it.

• Email scanning technologies. Tools like Microsoft Defender for Office 365, including Safe Links and Safe Attachments, scan and preload email content.
• Third-party gateways. Security services like Proofpoint, Mimecast, and similar providers may prefetch email content before it's delivered.

Let images load automatically

Email clients like Outlook on desktop, web, and mobile may preload images, which also affects response metrics. As part of your setup, turn on automatic image downloads from Perceptyx in your organization's global email settings.

Perceptyx email servers

Allow the servers in the column for your region.

These are the same no matter which region your account is in.

Network and application access

People need to reach the Perceptyx platform from wherever they work, and any automated data feeds need a clear path too. Make sure that:

• Every employee can reach the web domains listed below.
• No proxy server caches content from the Perceptyx website. The platform delivers content in real time, and a cached copy can show people something out of date.

File transfer servers

Automated data file feeds run over secure file transfer protocol, or SFTP, and requests come from the addresses below. The host key is how your team can confirm it's connected to the real Perceptyx server and not something pretending to be it.

Web browsers

Perceptyx supports these four browsers, following each vendor's own support policy:

• Google Chrome
• Mozilla Firefox
• Apple Safari
• Microsoft Edge (the Chromium version)

Use the latest version whenever you can. It gets you the newest security updates and the best performance.

Single sign-on

Single sign-on lets people log in to the Perceptyx platform with the same work credentials they use everywhere else. If they're already signed in to your organization's authentication system, they don't have to enter a password again.

Perceptyx strongly recommends it. It's smoother for people, and it's more secure, because your authentication system stays the only place anyone enters their credentials.

What setup needs

• Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) 2.0.
• Either an identity provider initiated or a service provider initiated connection.
• The ability to connect to Okta, the single sign-on vendor Perceptyx uses.
• Access for all employees to these domains:

• Your organization's single sign-on metadata file, shared with Perceptyx.
• The Perceptyx metadata file, installed on your side.
• A user token (the NameID) with values that match the ones in your human resources information system data feed.

Microsoft Teams and Slack

People can get Perceptyx communications right in Microsoft Teams or Slack, in the flow of their work day, instead of only in their inbox. That includes survey invitations, survey reminders, notices that a new report is ready, Intelligent Nudges if you have them, and more.

Setup happens in two steps, and the order matters.

First, Perceptyx sets up your account

Before anything gets installed, Perceptyx creates a Teams or Slack account tied to your company's email domain and turns on the ability to send Teams or Slack survey invitations on your self-led survey account. Your Perceptyx program manager makes that request for you.

Then your team installs the app

Once that's done, your IT administrator adds either the Perceptyx Teams app or the Perceptyx Slack integration to your Group Policy and pushes it out to employees.
