Understand User Roles and Choose the Right Role

Modified on Thu, 30 Jul at 7:11 AM

User roles determine what actions a user can perform in the platform, such as creating listening events, managing users, or viewing reports. They also help you decide the level of access a user should have based on their responsibilities.

It's important to distinguish user roles from reporting access:

  • User roles determine what a user can do in the platform.

  • Reporting groups and population access determine which reports and data a user can view.

For example, assigning someone the Reporting User role allows them to access reporting, but they can only view the specific listening events and data they've been granted access to through reporting groups and population access.

This article will help you:

  • Understand each user role and its capabilities.

  • Learn when to assign each role based on the user's responsibilities.

  • Access can be restricted to certain demographics, business units, locations, or other population groups

  • Reporting access is assigned separately for each listening event

Important: Reporting users cannot create or manage listening events.

Important Things to Know

  • Event Administrators have access to all listening events within their assigned permissions.

  • Event Creators can only manage the listening events they create, or those that have been shared with them.

  • Reporting Users can only access listening events to which they have been explicitly granted access.

  • Reporting groups and population access determine which reporting data a reporting user can view.

  • A user cannot be both an Event Creator and a Reporting user for the same listening event (as event creators automatically have reporting view access inherent in their role).

  • Some platform features are available only to specific user roles.
