Create Your Listening Program (Survey)

When you are ready to build your Listening Program, the first step is to create your program. You can create a new Listening Program from a template, an existing program, or from scratch. Once you select your method, the Program Builder opens, you complete a few settings, and click Proceed to Build to save your new Program and advance to the Build phase.


This article walks through:


Create a New Survey

When you create a survey from scratch, there are no predefined pages, questions, colors, or formatting associated with it. You can specify these options in the Build phase. 

  1. Navigate to the Program Builder.

    • From the Surveys page, click +Build New Survey.

    • From the My Surveys page, click + New Project

The Program Builder Overview page appears.



  1. Complete the required (*) fields on the Overview page:

  • Title*: Give your survey a title.

  • Description*: Add notes about your survey.

Note: Survey takers cannot see this information.

  • Category*: Choose the category that best corresponds to your survey.

  • Languages: Select any of our 35 available languages. This field is not required unless you want your survey available in multiple languages. 

  • AppID*: Specify a unique value to identify your survey. 

Note: The AppID becomes part of your survey URL and cannot be edited after you create the survey. This information is not visible to survey respondents; it is for Perceptyx internal use only.

  1. Click Proceed to Build.

A confirmation box appears.

  1. Click Confirm.

The survey is created, and the Build page appears. You can progress through the Build phase or exit and build the survey content at another time. If you want to exit the Program Builder, you click Exit. The My Surveys page appears with your new survey added in Draft mode.

Note: Your information is saved automatically. You do not need to take any additional steps to save your work.


Create a Survey from a Template

You can quickly create a survey using the Perceptyx templates or your own. Each template has predefined survey settings, categories, questions, response scales, and options. You can modify them as needed in the Build phase to suit your specific survey objectives. 

  1. Navigate to the Template Library.

    From the 
    Surveys page: 

    1. Click +Build New Survey.

    2. Click the Ask icon (left menu) and select Template Library.


From the Program Builder:

  1. Click the Ask icon (left menu) and select Template Library.

  1. Click Start Building next to the template you want to use.

The Build a Survey from (Template Name) dialog box appears.



  1. Enter the AppID.

Note: The AppID becomes part of your survey URL and cannot be edited after you create the survey. This information is not visible to survey respondents; it is for Perceptyx internal use only.

  1. Click Build.

The system builds a new survey based on the template and displays the Overview page.

  1. Edit the information on the Overview page to reflect your survey, then click Update.

The survey is created, and the Build page appears. You can progress through the Build phase or exit and  build the survey content at another time. If you want to exit the Program Builder, you click Exit. The My Surveys page appears with your new survey added in Draft mode.




Create a New Survey from an Existing Survey

You can also create a new survey from an existing survey by using the Duplicate Survey feature. When you duplicate a survey, you create a new survey with the same settings, questions, etc. as the existing survey.


  1. Navigate to the My Surveys page.

    From the 
    Surveys page: 

    1. Click +Build New Survey.

    2. Click the Ask icon (left menu) and select My Surveys.


From the Program Builder:

  1. Click the Ask icon (left menu) and select My Surveys.

  1. Click the gear icon of the survey you want to clone and select Duplicate Survey.

The Build a Survey from (Survey Name) dialog box appears.



  1. Enter the AppID.

  1. Click Build.

The system builds a new survey based on the survey you selected and displays the Overview page.

  1. Edit the information on the Overview page to reflect your survey, then click Update.

The survey is created, and the Build page appears. You can progress through the Build phase or exit and  build the survey content at another time. If you want to exit the Program Builder, you click Exit. The My Surveys page appears with your new survey added in Draft mode.
