Preview Your Event | Point-In-Time & Lifecycle

Modified on Wed, 27 Aug at 2:40 PM

During the Content phase of your event, the Preview Listening Event button becomes available in the top right corner. This button opens a separate browser tab where you can view the event as participants would see it from start to finish. We recommend previewing your event to ensure it’s set up correctly before launching.

You can preview listening events in either Default View or Demographic View. Default View shows the full event while respecting any page or question-based skip or display logic. If you've applied demographic-based display logic using HRIS data, Demographic View lets you preview the event from a specific participant's perspective to ensure the experience matches your intended design.

You can also share preview links with others, even if they don’t have platform access, to gather input or approvals.

Note: If you build your event from scratch, the Preview feature becomes available once you've added questions to your event.

This article walks through:

Preview an Event in Default View

If your event does not use demographic-based conditional logic, the preview will show the full event.

  1. Navigate to the Content phase for the event you want to preview.

From within the Event Builder:

  1. Click Content in the left panel.

From Listen:

  1. In the Active Events section or the All Events section, click Manage Event for the event you want to preview.

The Event Builder opens, displaying the Overview page.

  1. In the left panel, click Content.

        2. At the top of the page, click Preview Listening Event, then click Default View.

The event preview opens in a separate browser tab. A banner across the top of the page displays the text This is a survey preview. Responses will not be saved.

Note: You can also copy and share the URL for the event preview with others outside the platform so they can also view and evaluate the event without having to access the platform.

  1. Click through the event, answer questions, and submit if you want to view the Thank You page.

Note: All submitted responses are automatically cleared when you make the event live.

  1. When you are done, simply close the browser tab.

Preview an Event in Demographic View

If your event includes demographic-based conditional logic based on your HRIS data, you can preview the event as it would appear to different types of respondents by applying demographic filters. These filters reflect the conditions you've set in the conditional logic.

For example, if you've applied logic that displays two questions for European employees that are not applicable to North American employees, you can apply preview filters based on the Region demographic to see the experience from each group’s perspective. This allows you to confirm that the event behaves correctly based on each respondent's demographic profile.

There are two approaches you can take:

  • If you are the only person who needs to preview the event, you can create filters and preview without saving the filters.

  • If you want to create shareable links so others can preview the event, you must save and apply each filter, which creates the link for each one.

The following sections show both approaches, using the example of an event with two additional questions that display for European respondents and do not display for North American respondents.

Preview Without Creating Links

        2. At the top of the page, click Preview Listening Event, then click Demographic View.

A landing page appears outlining the steps for previewing the event from different perspectives.

  1. Click Select Demographics.

The Filters dialog box appears, displaying available demographics from your HRIS data file.

  1. Click the arrow for a demographic to display its available options. You can use the Search feature to help you quickly find a specific demographic.

  1. Select the option for the demographic value you want to include in the filter.

Note: In this example, we are creating two filters (one for North America and one for Europe), so you will select only one value here - North America or Europe.

  1. Click Apply.

The Event Summary screen appears.

The summary shows the filter that will be applied in the preview (in this example, Region: North America), as well as the number of questions and the question type(s) that will be visible to the filtered group. Notice that 2 questions will be hidden based on selected demographics.

  1. Click Preview Event, then click through the event to make sure the correct questions display for the filtered group.

If the preview looks correct, you can repeat the process to create and preview your second filter.

  1. Close the browser tab with the preview to return to the Event Summary screen.

  2. Click Edit Filters to display the Filters dialog box with your current, unsaved filter.

  3. Click the arrow for the demographic again (in this example, Region) to display its available options.

  4. Select the option for the demographic value you want to include in the filter (in this example, Europe).

  5. Click Apply.

The Event Summary screen appears, showing that no questions will be hidden for the filter group.

  1. Click Preview Event, then click through the event to make sure the correct questions display for the filtered group.

  2. Close the browser tab with the preview to return to the Event Summary screen.

  3. When you are finished filtering and previewing, close the browser tab with the Event Summary screen to return to your event.

Preview and Create Shareable Links

To create shareable links, you need to save each filter you create. Every time you save and apply a filter, a unique link is generated. Returning to the example above, you first create and save a filter for Region: North America, then create and save another for Region: Europe. Once both filters are saved, you can apply each one individually to generate its corresponding link. When you share these links, recipients can use them to view the event as it will appear to the relevant audience. For example, the North America link shows the event as North American respondents will see it, while the Europe link shows the version for European respondents.

Note: Testers using the sharable link will see the Event Summary page, but will not have editing capabilities.

  1. Complete steps 1-8 outlined in the previous section to create and preview your first filter.

  2. In the Event Summary screen, click Save Filters.

The Save Filter dialog box appears.

  1. Type a name for the filter in the Filter Name box, then click Save Filter.

The Filters dialog box displays your saved filters in the Saved Filters tab. You can now create your second filter.

  1. Click Clear Selection to deselect the saved filter, then click Go Back to Filters.

The Filters dialog box displays your demographics again.

  1. Create your next filter (in this example, Region: Europe), apply it, and preview the event.

  2. Close the browser tab with the preview to return to the Event Summary screen.

  3. Click Save Filters, type a name for the second filter in the Filter Name box, then click Save Filter.

The Filters dialog box displays your saved filters in the Saved Filters tab.

  1. Click to select the first saved filter for which you want to create a link, then click Apply and Save.

The Event Summary screen displays with the generated link.

  1. Click Copy Link to copy the link and paste it in the appropriate location.

  2. To create a link for your other saved filter, click Edit Filters, click to select the second filter, then click Apply and Save.

  3. Click Copy Link to copy the link and paste it in the appropriate location.

  4. When you are finished, close the browser window with the Event Summary to return to your event.
