Work with Intelligent Nudges

Modified on Wed, 27 Nov at 8:46 AM

Nudges are personalized action recommendations delivered in the flow of work, rooted in science, and powered by AI, that drive business impact by creating positive changes in behavior. Nudges close the loop from insight to impact by activating everyone in an organization to take action and develop the habits that help them - and their organization - succeed.

Designed to augment action plans as well as help individuals reach personal goals, nudges are delivered seamlessly in the flow of work, making them quick and easy to implement. As employees interact with Intelligent Nudges, they can provide feedback that Perceptyx uses to refine our nudges over time and make them more targeted and personalized.

Administrators can view nudge engagement data to see how employees are engaging with nudges, which themes are chosen most often for personal focus areas, and nudge view rates over time. They can also add custom learning links to nudges to provide access to additional related resources, such as courses from your company Learning Management System, career development tools, personal development plans, etc.

Note: Intelligent Nudges are available only with the purchase of Activate or Grow (for 360 events). For more information, see the Activate Overview article or the Grow Overview article.

This article walks through:

View and Interact with Intelligent Nudges

In addition to receiving nudges in the flow of work (via email, MS Teams, and/or Slack), you can view Intelligent Nudges on the Act platform page - in the Action feed or within action plan details.

View Nudges in the Action Feed

  1. Navigate to the Act page.

Intelligent Nudges display in the Action Feed section in reverse-chronological order, with the most recent nudge at the top. Commitment reminders display in the Action Feed as well.

Each nudge provides a simple recommendation for you to consider trying, along with a reason why the recommendation can be beneficial (the Why? section). Beneath the Why? section the nudge lists the action plan, organizational behavior, or personal focus area with which the nudge is associated.

In the I plan to do this section of the Nudge card you can select YesNo, or I already do this to provide feedback about whether you feel the nudge is useful.

View Nudges Within Action Plan Details

The cards that appear in the Active Action Plans section of the Act page display the number of nudges received for each action plan. You can view the nudges by viewing the action plan details.

  1. Navigate to the Act page.

  2. In the Active Action Plans section, click View Details for an action plan.

The action plan details display the nudges that have been sent for that particular action plan.

Review Intelligent Nudge Engagement Data (Admins Only)

Administrator users can view nudge engagement information (in addition to action plan engagement information) in the Act Metrics dashboard.

  1. Navigate to the Act page.

  2. At the top of the screen, click Act Metrics.

The Act Metrics dashboard appears, displaying the following information:

  • Summary Metrics: A global view of how employees are engaging with nudges

  • Activity Personas: An easy-to-understand view of how employees are engaging with nudges. Each employee is assigned one of four personas based on their engagement:

    • Activator: “Activators” engage with nearly every nudge they receive, and regularly try new things. These individuals don’t just take action; they make action-taking a top priority in their daily work.

    • Consistently Active: “Consistently active” employees regularly engage with and act on most of the nudges they receive. They make action-taking a habit in their daily work.

    • Sometimes Active: “Sometimes active” employees act on some nudges, but do not consistently take action. These individuals may need to be re-inspired or motivated to prioritize taking action.

    • Inactive: “Inactive” employees have not viewed any of their recent nudges or committed to any action-taking on nudges.

  • Nudges Sent for Personal Focus Areas: A view of which themes are most commonly selected as personal focus areas in nudge preferences

  • Nudges Viewed Over Time: The nudge view rate over time.

Custom learning links reinforce nudge content around select themes and quickly connect your employees to additional resources they can take action on in addition to the nudge. Additionally, custom learning links keep your learning and development and technology resources top of mind for your teams. As an administrator, you can add custom learning links to nudges, monitor the click rate for links, and edit or deactivate the links as appropriate.

You can enable up to 14 different types of resources (if applicable) in your organization:

  • Learning Management System

  • Personal Development Plan

  • Career Development Tools

  • Inclusive Meeting Resources

  • Public Recognition Platform

  • Time Off Request Platform

  • Requesting Feedback Platform

  • Company Benefits Portal

Add a Custom Learning Link

You add custom learning links via the Platform Settings for Action Planning and Nudges in the Admin Portal.

The Learning Links tab includes a + Add Learning Link button and a table displaying all custom learning links created so far. The table contains the following information for each link:

  • Name: The name of the resource the link points to.

  • Content Type: The category of resource types applicable to the link. Choose from one of the 14 predefined content types. The AI Engine uses the content type to determine which nudges should include the learning link.

  • Audience: Which users will see the link in their nudges, depending on their job level.

  • Status: Indicates whether the resource is active, in draft mode, or deactivated.

  • Click Rate: The number of users who opened the link at least once divided by the number of users who opened a nudge containing the link.

  • Actions: Contains an Edit button you can use to modify existing learning links.

  1. Log in to the Perceptyx Platform.

  2. In the navigation bar, click Admin Portal.

The Admin Portal appears.

  1. In the left panel, click Action Planning and Nudges in the Platform Settings section.

The Learning Links tab appears.

  1. Click + Add Learning Link (top right).

The Select Learning Content Type dialog box appears. Each available type includes a brief description.

  1. Click the learning content type you want to use, then click Next.

The Edit Learning Link Details dialog box appears.

Required fields are indicated by a red asterisk (*). The Preview Nudge section shows what a nudge with the learning link will look like for recipients.

  1. In the Content URL box, type or paste the URL for the content to which you want to link.

  2. In the Audience section, select the checkbox for each job level you want to access the content.

  3. In the Content Name box, type a name for the content to which you want to link.

The name you enter updates in the Preview Nudge section of the dialog box, showing you how a nudge with the learning link will appear to users.

  1. If you want the content name to appear in additional languages (English is the default), expand the Add Translated Content Names dropdown to display text boxes where you can enter translations for the content name in any of the core 34 supported languages.

Note: Perceptyx does not provide translations for the content names.

  1. Click Activate to save your selections and make the learning link active.

The newly added learning link displays at the top of the table.

Note: If you don’t want to activate the link yet, click Save as Draft instead of Activate. This will save your changes and the link will appear with the Draft status in the Learning Links tab. When you are ready to activate the learning link, you can click Edit to make modifications (if needed) and activate the link.
