Perceptyx builds the manager hierarchy tree based on the employee data file. The manager hierarchy is based on the manager ID and employee ID relationship in the file and becomes the foundation for filtering and reporting within the application. The manager hierarchy allows for four types of results filtering options in Advanced Reporting - two that are available via the New Filter dialog box and two that are available in the Demographic Crosstab Report.
This article walks through:
- The Manager Hierarchy Filter
- The Manager Name Filter
- The Direct Report Hierarchy Filter
- The Direct Report Team Filter
The Manager Hierarchy Filter
The Manager Hierarchy (roll-up) filter option displays results for a specific manager’s entire segment of the organizational hierarchy - that is, results for all employees under the selected manager, down to the lowest level (direct reports and anyone under them).
For instance, in the following example, if you select the Manager Hierarchy demographic for a filter and select Christian, the system displays results for all employees under Christian, down to the lowest level. The employees whose results you’ll see in this example are circled in blue.
You use the Manager Hierarchy option by creating a new filter in the Advanced Reporting Dashboard. For full details about creating and applying filters, see the Filter Your Data article.
Navigate to the Advanced Reporting Dashboard for your listening event.
In the left panel, click Filter Data, then select New Filter.
The New Filter dialog box appears.
Display the Select a Demographic dropdown, then select Manager Hierarchy.
The list of names in the hierarchy tree displays in the dialog box.
Click the Search box, then type the name of the manager whose hierarchy you want to view results for using the format last name, first name. For example: adams, chris.
The dialog box updates to display all instances of the name.
Select the check box for the appropriate manager.
The dialog box updates to show the count (the number of employees in the selected manager’s hierarchy).
Click Submit Filter.
The filter is applied and the dashboard updates to show results only for the selected manager and their portion of the hierarchy.
Note: The filter applies to any report you open unless you clear it. For more details about using the Filter feature, see the Filter Your Data article.
The Manager Name Filter
The Manager Name (direct reports) filter displays results for a selected manager’s direct reports - that is, only the employees who report directly to the manager.
For instance, in the following example, if you select the Manager Name demographic for a filter and select Christian, you’ll see results only for the employees who report directly to Christian. The employees whose results you’ll see in this example are circled in blue.
You use the Manager Name option by creating a new filter in the Advanced Reporting Dashboard. For full details about creating and applying filters, see the Filter Your Data article.
Navigate to the Advanced Reporting Dashboard for your listening event.
In the left panel, click Filter Data, then select New Filter.
The New Filter dialog box appears.
Display the Select a Demographic dropdown, then select Manager Name.
The list of names in the hierarchy tree displays in the dialog box.
Click the Search box, then type the name of the manager whose direct reports you want to view results for using the format last name, first name. For example: adams, chris.
The dialog box updates to display all instances of the name.
Select the check box for the appropriate manager.
The dialog box updates to show the count (the number of direct reports for the selected manager).
Click Submit Filter.
The filter is applied and the dashboard updates to show results only for the selected manager and their direct reports.
Note: The filter applies to any report you open unless you clear it. For more details about using the Filter feature, see the Filter Your Data article.
The Direct Report Hierarchy Filter
The Direct Report Hierarchy filter is used exclusively in the Demographic Crosstab Report. This filter displays data for the entire hierarchy of a selected manager’s direct reports - that is, all employees, down to the lowest level, under the selected manager. Results for the entire hierarchy in the selected manager's organization appear side by side in the Demographic Crosstab Report.
For instance, in the following example, if you select the Direct Report Hierarchy filter and select Susan, results display for all employees, down to the lowest level, under Christian, Jane, and Tom. The entire hierarchy results for Christian, Jane, and Tom’s organizations appear side by side in the Demographic Crosstab Report. The employees whose results you’ll see in this example are circled in blue, red and yellow, respectively.
You use the Direct Report Hierarchy filter by selecting it as a demographic option and choosing a manager name in the Demographic Crosstab Report. For full details about using the Demographic Crosstab Report, see the Comparison Reports article.
Navigate to the Advanced Reporting Dashboard for your listening event.
In the left panel, click Comparison Reports, then select Demographic Crosstab.
The Demographic Crosstab Report appears.
Display the Demographic Selection dropdown, then select Direct Report Hierarchy.
A pop-up box appears, prompting you to select a manager.
Display the Manager dropdown, scroll to the name of the manager you want to choose, then click the name.
Note: You can type the first letter of the last name to jump to the appropriate section of the list.
Click Show.
The filter is applied and the report updates to show results for the manager’s direct report hierarchy.
The Direct Report Team Filter
The Direct Report Team filter is used exclusively in the Demographic Crosstab Report. This filter displays data for the direct reports of a selected manager’s direct reports - that is, only the employees who report directly to managers of the selected manager. Results for each of these managers’ direct reports appear side by side in the Demographic Crosstab Report.
For instance, in the following example, if you select the Direct Report Team filter and select Susan, results display for only the employees who directly report to Christian, Jane, and Tom. The scores for Christian, Jane, and Tom’s direct reports appear side by side in the Demographic Crosstab Report. The employees whose results you’ll see in this example are circled in blue, red and yellow, respectively.
You use the Direct Report Team filter by selecting it as a demographic option and choosing a manager name in the Demographic Crosstab Report. For full details about using the Demographic Crosstab Report, see the Comparison Reports article.
Navigate to the Advanced Reporting Dashboard for your listening event.
In the left panel, click Comparison Reports, then select Demographic Crosstab.
The Demographic Crosstab Report appears.
Display the Demographic Selection dropdown, then select Direct Report Team.
A pop-up box appears, prompting you to select a manager.
Display the Manager dropdown, scroll to the name of the manager you want to choose, then click the name.
Note: You can type the first letter of the last name to jump to the appropriate section of the list.
Click Show.
