Platform

Welcome! The Perceptyx platform helps your organization ask employees how things are going, make sense of what they tell you, and turn that into changes people actually notice. This article is the lay of the land, plus where to start for your role.

You do not need to read the whole knowledge base before you get going. Skim this article, find your role near the bottom, and follow the handful of links there. Everything else can wait until you need it.

Everything runs off the navigation bar at the top of the screen, and it stays put on every page, so you are always one click from anywhere else.

  • On the left: Home, Listen, Analyze, and Act, plus Develop if your company has purchased it.
  • On the right: a gear icon that opens the Admin Portal (administrators only), a question mark for help resources including this knowledge base, Alerts, a language menu if your company offers more than one language, and your initials for your account settings and signing out. For more on that last one, see Account Settings.

Note

What shows up in your bar depends on your role and on what your company has purchased. If a colleague has an item you do not, that is usually the reason, not a problem with your account.

Home

Home is where you land after logging in, and it is built around what you need to do next. If you build listening events, you will see your most recent ones. If you manage a team or support managers, you will see your latest results and reminders about your action plans. For a closer look, see The Home Page.

Alerts

Alerts shows anything waiting on you, like a survey to take or an action plan follow-up coming up. Click it to see the full list and jump straight to each task.

Admin Portal

Behind the gear icon is the Admin Portal, and only administrators can open it. This is where employee data, user accounts, groups and permissions, branding, and subscriptions live. Most people never need it. If you are an administrator, the Admin Portal article is the place to start.

One more thing worth knowing up front: your session times out after 30 minutes of inactivity, so if you step away for a while, you will need to log in again.

The four areas of the platform

The easiest way to picture the platform is as a loop. You ask your people questions in Listen, you make sense of the answers in Analyze, you do something about them in Act, and Develop helps build the skills that keep the improvements going.

Listen: ask your people

Listen is where listening events get built and run, and it is available to administrators and event creators. New events are built in the Event Builder, a guided workspace that walks you through each step from naming the event to sending the first invitation. Depending on your agreement with Perceptyx, you may build events yourself, or your Perceptyx team may build some of them for you.

To learn more, see Listen and Build Your Listening Program | Overview.

Analyze: understand the results

Analyze is where results live. Open a listening event and you get reports you can slice by team, location, tenure, or any other employee details your company has loaded. To protect confidentiality, results only appear for groups large enough that no one's individual answers can be picked out.

A few names worth knowing:

  • Advanced Reporting is the deeper workspace for a single listening event, with dashboards, reports, and tools for digging into what people wrote in their comments.
  • Cross-Survey Dashboards compare results across more than one event, which is where you go to see whether anything changed since last time.
  • Third-Party Comments brings in comment data from sources outside the platform, like public review sites, and is available to administrators.

What you can see in Analyze depends on the reporting access your company gives you. To learn more, see Analyze and Access Your Results.

Act: do something about it

Act is where results turn into something a manager will actually do. Every customer has it. You pick an item from your results, commit to up to two actions, and set up to three follow-up dates to check in with your team. Keeping it small is on purpose. A plan with fifteen commitments is a plan nobody finishes.

Needs Activate

Activate is a subscription that makes the Act page smarter. It adds suggested action plans, nudges that show up in the flow of the work week, AI coaching sessions you can chat with, and Campaigns for focused nudging across a group. If your company does not have Activate, those features are not available, and standard action planning works just the same.

To learn more, see Activate Overview.

Develop: build the skills

Develop is the learning side of the platform, and it sits in the navigation bar next to the others if your company has purchased it. You upload training material your organization already has, and Develop turns it into a one-on-one conversation with each learner instead of slides they click through. Because learners explain ideas back in their own words, you get a read on whether they understood the material, not just whether they finished it.

The four kinds of listening events

We call them listening events rather than surveys, because not all of them are a once-a-year questionnaire. There are four kinds, and each fits a different job.

Event typeWhat it isWhen you might use it
Point-In-TimeOpens on a set date and closes on a set date, with everyone invited answering the same questions. An annual engagement survey, a quick pulse check, or checking in after a big change.
LifecycleStays open and invites people automatically when they reach a moment in their time with your company, based on your employee data.Onboarding, exits, and other milestones you want to hear about every time they happen.
360 feedbackGathers feedback about one person from the people who work around them, alongside that person's own self-assessment.Leadership development and coaching conversations.
CrowdsourceAsks an open question, then lets people submit ideas and vote on each other's.Surfacing ideas and finding out which ones matter most to your people.

Note

Administrators and event creators can build Point-In-Time events, while Lifecycle events are built by administrators. 360 feedback events are always built by your Perceptyx team. Other events can be built by your Perceptyx team too, depending on your agreement. Self-Led and Perceptyx-Led Event Capabilities explains the difference.

The People Insights Model

Behind the questions and the reports sits a framework called the People Insights Model. It is Perceptyx's research-based way of breaking the employee experience into pieces you can measure and act on.

It works in three layers:

  • 10 factors are the big areas of the employee experience, like Growth & Development or Manager Relationship.
  • 40 themes sit underneath, four per factor. Growth & Development, for example, is made up of Career Growth, Feedback, Fulfillment, and Learning & Training.
  • Behaviors tie each theme to specific everyday things people can do differently.

Why this matters to you: Perceptyx survey questions are mapped to the model, so a result on a question points to a theme and to the behaviors behind it. That is how the platform connects a score to practical ideas for what to do next, and, with Activate, to nudges that fit what your team said.

Each factor has its own article with research highlights and things to keep in mind when action planning, plus a discussion guide for talking it through with your team:

Where to start for your role

Find the role that fits you and start with those articles. Plenty of people wear more than one hat, so read every section that applies. If you are not sure which role you have, ask whoever set up your platform access.

Administrators

You have the widest view, and you set things up for everyone else. Start with groups and permissions, since they decide what every other user can see.

Event creators

You build and run listening events. You will see the events you created and any you have been given access to, and your administrator may ask you to send events for approval before they launch.

HR business partners

You will usually see results across several teams, and part of your job is helping managers make sense of theirs and follow through.

Managers

Your part is nicely focused: look at your team's results, talk them through with your team, and pick one thing to work on together.

Tip

Whatever your role, you will also be asked to take listening events yourself. Participate in a Listening Event | Point-In-Time & Lifecycle shows what that looks like from the employee side, which helps when people come to you with questions.
